Call for papers – II International Colloquium
«SCIENCE AND FAITH IN THE UNIVERSITY «
II INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM
John Henry Newman his sources and commentators
4-5-6 October 2017
Universidad Católica del Maule
All branches of knowledge are connected together, because the subject-matter of knowledge is intimately united in itself, as being the acts and the work of the Creator.
John Henry Newman, Idea of a University, Discours 5, 1.
Cardinal John Henry Newman throughout his life sought to show the unity of reality, and therefore the need for the various, interrelated sciences to offer a coherent and broad vision. For this reason, a well-formed mind must comprehend in depth the philosophical and scientific knowledge alongside the knowledge that has been revealed. This is the demand that challenges the believing thinker, as Newman proposed and deepened it, for as he himself makes us see: «we cannot imagine that our Savior promulgates through his inspired ministers doctrines that contradict previous truths and that He left written about the face of nature».
We emphasize that one of the most paradigmatic events of the present time constitutes a new areopagus to show the harmony between science and Christian faith, whose stage par excellence is the University.
Next 4, 5 and 6 October 2017 will be held at Universidad Católica del Maule, Chile. The II International Colloquium surrounding the figure and thought of John Henry Newman, said event is convened by the Newman Circle its sources and commentators. 2.- Christian faith
